Announcement March for the Welfare State on September 26 in Berlin

On September 26, we’ll send a strong message in support of a strong welfare state. IG Metall, together with the German Trade Union Federation DGB and all its member unions, is calling for a nationwide action day. In Berlin, too, we’ll take to the streets together. Join us!

Berlin,29.06.2019 IG Metall Kundgebung "Fairwandel" am Brandenburger Tor

8. September 2026 8. September 2026

Join us at the march on Saturday, September 26. Meet at 12:00 p.m. at the IG Metall building, Alte Jakobstraße 149; the march will proceed to the City Hall, where a closing rally will be held.

The slogan is: “Hard-earned! Your work. Your health. Your pension.” The attacks on the welfare state and workers must stop. The welfare state is not a gift from politicians or employers. Good, secure jobs, the best possible health care, and a reliable retirement income are non-negotiable.

A strong welfare state provides security in times of change. Especially in times when many workers fear for their jobs, solidarity-based safeguards and social cohesion are all the more important. Politicians and employers must trust the workers who, through their labor, create our country’s prosperity. We need a growth agenda for Germany and Europe that fosters innovation and reduces dependencies.

We stand against policies that cut benefits and erode labor rights!

Stand with us—for growth and investment

  • For active policies in industry, services, skilled trades, and innovation that secure jobs and business locations!
  • For more investment in sustainable infrastructure through higher taxes on large fortunes!

Join us in standing up—for good, collectively bargained, and healthy work

  • For reliable working hours: Hands off the Working Hours Act!
  • For the abolition of unfounded fixed-term contracts and chain contracts!
  • For trust instead of insinuations: No forced sick leave (Medical Certificate Requirement) on the first day!

Stand with us—for an effective and affordable healthcare and long-term care system

  • For fair financing, to which everyone contributes!
  • For collectively bargained wages in the care sector that are fully funded!
  • For comprehensive healthcare coverage across the state!

Stand with us—for a pension that’s enough to live on

  • For a pension without reductions for long-term insured workers and for block-age part-time work! 45 years is enough!
  • For a retirement age that workers can actually reach in good health!
  • For good and fairly funded occupational pensions for everyone!

We deserve better than mistrust and insults!

Stand up with us! For your work. For your health. For your pension.

Join us in making a difference! Let's work for reforms that will make our country better and more just!
