About

Digital economy, we are your union!

We, the trade union officials of the Berlin branch of IG Metall, are dedicated to ensuring a future worth living for our members. Every day, we tackle the urgent questions of our time, focusing on transforming the working world. We advocate for a digital and ecological transformation that leads to a socially and ecologically sustainable economy, democratically shaped by IG Metall members for the benefit of current and future generations. Our commitment is to secure and well-paid jobs, fair working conditions, and the right to co-determination.

In our companies, we unite as IG Metall members to influence the shaping of work. Secure jobs, apprenticeships, qualifications, and professional development are not given to us as gifts. We are the specialists for co-determination, equipped with the structures, networks, knowledge, and experience to positively shape our living and working conditions. Our strength lies in being well-organized in our companies and branches, which allows us to achieve our goals through collective action and solidarity.

Over the next ten years, 300,000 people are expected to work in Berlin’s digital economy. IG Metall is committed to inspiring these colleagues to join us, even as they work digitally and remotely. The executive committee has tasked the Berlin branch with engaging the digital economy, testing new methods, and developing concepts to address employees in this sector. A dedicated team of five colleagues will pioneer this effort, leveraging their diverse skills and backgrounds to explore new communication channels and organize employees.

Digital access rights pose a significant challenge for trade unions. We must enforce these rights to ensure we can reach all employees, even in the digital space. The experience of our team highlights the disparities in pay when employees negotiate individually, with differences sometimes reaching up to 1,000 euros.

Jan Brauburger, Sabrina Lamers, Malte Röhricht and Stefanie Haberkern will be taking off together. With their diverse skills and backgrounds, they are looking for new formulas and approaches. The digital team will explore the communication channels that are common in the digital economy and use them to adress and organize employees.
